Yen Hall Farm Racing at Cheltenham
Members of our racing club, YHF Racing, enjoyed a great day out at Cheltenham on 21 October with Glimpse of Gold. This was more of a celebration of what the 11 year-old Gold has already achieved for club members rather than in expectation of another win by him and it was a very happy occasion. He ran with real credit to finish mid-division, beating many more fancied horses.
Gold has already won over £10,000 in total prize money for the club’s current season, which started on 1 September – to add to the £22,748 that he won during the previous season from 1 September 2021 to 31 May 2022. It was a last minute decision to send him to Cheltenham as he had only run four days earlier on 17 October at Plumpton – but he had come out of that race so well and he loves quick ground and Cheltenham was predicted to be good to firm, good in places. As it happened, it rained all morning and so the ground was probably too easy for him but he still ran a great race, jumping beautifully but unsurprisingly overhauled (but never giving up) on the run up the hill to the finish. He is now due a break – but he hates being on holiday and loves his racing and so if the promised autumn/winter rain doesn’t materialise he may well persuade me to let him run again. The other club horses, Le Tueur and Templier, who do like proper winter ground, are raring to go and should be entered up soon.
