Lyric calls the tune
Lyrical Genius (aka Lyric) won the marathon 3 mile 5 furlong Tim Barclay Memorial Handicap Chase at Fakenham on 14 February. Lyric, in the colours of The Friday Lunch Club, was given an excellent ride by Sean Bowen and led from the start. Although briefly challenged for the lead at one point, Lyric dealt firmly with his rivals and won by almost four lengths. This was impressive, particularly bearing in mind that Lyric had only run six days earlier when he was third in very testing conditions at Uttoxeter. Lyric clearly enjoyed himself and is very pleased with himself this morning, having eaten up well and trotting out proudly this morning.
This was Lyric’s first chasing win and his 5th race since his debut for the yard late last year. He is showing pleasing consistency having been placed 3rd in each of his other starts for us bar one. Let’s hope that he can build further on this win!
We should also note that the win gave Sean Bowen his 999th career win and another win in the following race took his tally to 1,000! Sean is of course the current leader in the race to be champion jockey this season – Go, Sean!
Rock On Ted (aka Ted) made his racecourse debut in the bumper on the same card. He was ridden by our conditional jockey, Jamie Gambin, and ran an excellent and very encouraging race. He was up with the pace until the last furlong or so when the two impressive and more experienced market leaders turned on the gas and ran on well to the line. Ted certainly looked the part and enjoyed the experience and demonstrated some genuine potential. We look forward to seeing how that develops.
