Jet Soars to Victory
Jack’s Touch (aka Jet) won the mares’ novice handicap chase at Leicester on 20 November in only her second start over steeplechase fences. Daryl Jacob gave her a very positive ride, immediately in second place and soon vying for the lead. She had established her lead firmly as the runners passed the stands with a circuit to travel but was badly hampered by a loose horse as she turned into the home straight for the final time. Jet showed great character and focus not to be put off by the loose horse, having been pushed first right and then left and at risk of being taken out by the loose horse at the 13th and 14th fences. She jumped beautifully over Leicester’s imposing fences and showed considerable maturity to have been out in the front for so long. Challenged at the final fence, Jet dug deep and found some extra power and pulled away from her rival to pass the line five lengths clear.
This was a particularly pleasing result for connections as Jet has had some health issues and is lightly raced for an 8 year old. We had believed that those issues were all resolved and she ran very well in her chasing debut at Huntingdon. This was a significant step further forward and she seemed filled with confidence and clearly has a talent for jumping the bigger obstacles.
