At the yard the horses are all well if a little frustrated with the snow. We have been able to give them light exercise and the track has held up well. Just like us, some love it and others would rather stay in bed. Frozen pipes have been the biggest problem and I can now add ‘plumber’ to my CV.
Before the snow arrived we had a good week racing although no winners. Brecon Hill, Fare Thee Well and Highway Star all ran well. It was very encouraging that we have hopefully sorted out Stars problems. He ran a very promising bumper on the AW at Lingfield and will now go hurdling. He is an awesome jumper and should certainly win on better ground over hurdles. Brecon was quite green on his first hurdle run and will have learnt a lot from the experience. We will up him in trip and he’ll be back out soon, as will Fare Thee Well who after his mammoth lay off, got tired in the holding going at Lingfield. He has come back thinking he’s a racehorse now and will be very different next time out.
Finally, although I wasn’t going to say anything else about the weather, I must say a big thank you to Nick, Toria and Emillie who all battled through the snow to get here and were never late. As I’ve said before, good staff are vital and they were brilliant.
