Sarah Humphrey Racing Newsletter 18 February 2018

The weather continues to cause problems by throwing everything it can at us. We have had several meetings where we wanted to run abandoned, and had a very frustrating day when Sedgefield was called off when we were only twenty miles away from the racecourse because a snow storm suddenly appeared. The horses had an eight hour trip up and down the country for fun! I think one of the most thankless jobs going must be to be a clerk of the course at this time of year. It doesn’t matter what you do someone is always going to moan. People seem to forget that they want the meeting to go ahead as much as anyone does and they can’t control the weather.

At the yard the horses are all well. Legendoftheknight and Postbridge have both had wind operations and are now back in light work. We will increase their work over the next fortnight and then they will be back running in the next few weeks. It will be very interesting to see what improvement, if any, a wind operation makes to them. On the whole we have had good results when we have had them done in the past so fingers crossed that they work again.

We have a new addition to the yard in a four year old chestnut filly called ‘The Lady Rules’. She will join the Yen Hall Farm Racing syndicate and has already run a nice race to finish third at Catterick for them. She jumps well and I’m sure will be better on spring/summer ground. She should be winning before too long.

Fare Thee Well, Highway Star and Brecon Hill are all due to run next week. Fare Thee Well has been off the track for 1415 days due to one problem or another. He is now fit and well and has schooled beautifully so it will be exciting seeing him race at last. Highway Star is a very complicated character, but after his scare at the end of his last race, he has done nothing wrong and we hope we have sorted out his issues although unfortunately we can’t control what goes on between his ears! He has enormous ability if he cares to use it. Brecon Hill has schooled very well and has had several races where he has been declared abandoned, so let’s hope his luck changes and he actually gets to race. It should be an interesting week.
