City Escape, appropriately named for the pandemic lock-down, had her debut run for the yard at Lingfield on 21 November. It was also our son William’s first ride for me since becoming an apprentice (for Simon and Ed Crisford). It was a very pleasing run by the 3 year old filly and she coped very well with the step up in trip to 1 mile 2 furlongs, making a significant impression over the final furlong to be beaten only two lengths. We were also very pleased with William’s ride. He sensibly waited with the filly when the break left her towards the rear of the field and waited for his opportunity to make progress along the rail when they turned for home. He didn’t get the clearest run but the filly was game and ran on really well. A clearer route through would have found her much closer in the finish. City looks a nice prospect and, with a little more luck in running, will win for The Friday Lunch Club before long!
